Alexis Wagner of Mount Pleasant recently participated in the Youth Tour of Washington, D.C., sponsored by Access Energy Cooperative. They spent June 18-23 in Washington, D.C., with 40 other student leaders from Iowa.
Each year in June, this weeklong leadership development program provides high school students opportunities to learn first-hand about government, the electric cooperative business model, and today’s pressing issues in the energy industry. Students met their elected representatives in the U.S. House and Senate, toured historic sites, and ran their very own snack cooperative.
Alexis was chosen from applicants representing the entire 10-county service area of the cooperative to represent Access Energy Cooperative for the 2022 Youth Tour. In the fall, Alexis will be a junior at Mount Pleasant Community High School. She is the daughter of Alan and Julie Wagner. She is involved in a variety of school activities including cross country, wrestling, track, jazz band, musical, and show choir.
Access Energy Cooperative has been a part of the Youth Tour program since 1958 and currently selects up to two students each year to participate in the seven-day trip. The students are selected through an application and interview process.
